The third edition of this user-friendly yet scholarly text addresses the recently revised Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Programs (CACREP) standards, giving students in CACREP-accredited programs the benefit of reading a text that addresses the standards more completely. At the same time, the text provides the same comprehensive coverage of all aspects

of clinical mental health counseling in a number of environments while adding expanded coverage of counseling men and women, holistic approaches to counseling, and counselor settings.

After an insightful introduction to the foundation of the discipline, the authors examine the many roles and functions clinical mental health counselors perform, the variety of settings in which they work, and how that work differs from one client population to another. Emerging issues and trends in the field are explained and explored, while first-person narratives throughout the text illustrate specific challenges and opportunities associated with particular areas of expertise, giving students a real-world look into their future profession.

In the third edition, an even wider range of material is covered in regards to counseling specific populations, assessment and diagnosis, and emerging influences. Unlike many other texts in the field, Clinical Mental Health Counseling in Community and Agency Settings covers more and more diverse material and addresses the clinical mental health counseling profession as a whole rather than focusing specifically the community counseling profession. As mentioned above, the updated CACREP standards, which merge the community and mental health counseling tracks into one track–clinical mental health counseling–are addressed.
