ABOUT THIS TITLE - DESCRIPTION | | Leyendas del mundo hispano presents 12
legends from the Spanish-speaking world, chosen to illustrate both
universal and distinctive perspectives. Although American students
are aware of legends and myths they have heard since childhood,
they may not be aware of their purpose or easily associate the
lessons with legends from the Spanish-speaking world. All of
these legends have an indisputable potential for helping students
develop their creativity, as well as to discover both universal and
culturally unique values.
Each chapter opens with El contexto
cultural with information to help students situate the legend
within its historical and cultural context. Preparación
activities refer to information in El contexto cultural,
introduce new vocabulary and concepts, and supply advance
organizers and global questions for the reading.
Low-frequency vocabulary is glossed when it is not transparent from
the context of the legend and not included in the pre-reading
activities.
Post-reading activities progress from convergent
Comprensión activities to Aplicación to
higher-order Síntesis, Análisis y Evaluación.
Comprensión activities vary from chapter to chapter,
including “Who might have said?” to “Order the
events and retell the story.” Aplicación
activities have students do interpretive reading and role-play. The
Síntesis, Análisis y Evaluación activities
include further investigation, debate, reflection and guided
writing. |
